Food & Ag Education Booth

New this year, the market will have one booth dedicated to community groups offering food or agriculture related education.  Each week a different group from the community will offer educational information to shoppers from their unique perspective.  Interactive educational ideas are highly encouraged!  Some ideas include:

• Seed planting activities for kids
• Tastes tests with comparative nutritional information between locally grown and well-traveled foods
• Miles to Market displays showing how far particular vegetables have travelled to get to market.

New Market Manager

We're excited to introduce you to our new Market Manager, Wendie Dyson, who looks forward to getting to know you.  She led the formation of the successful Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market in 2006 and serves as Board Secretary for the Washington State Farmers Market Association.  She joins us on March 1, 2008 after having served as Program Director for Farming & the Environment, a small non-profit working to keep farming profitable and ecosystems healthy. During her three years with them, she also managed their communications, accounting and internship programs. 

Additional background includes managing the marketing, accounting, and strategic development of two family-run businesses, working for three years as an accountant in the seafood industry, and formerly serving as a board member with the Community Alliance for Global Justice.  She is passionate about supporting local, values-based businesses and creating a strong sense of community.
